Celebrating Small Business Saturday in Chester
In the lead up to Small Business Saturday we’ve focused on some of our clients. We work with so many business and we only work with people who we think are great, so we picked them at random from a list of nominations . Now we’d like to give our attention to some great Chester-based local independents who we have not worked with, but we have used and think they are great and deserve a shout out for Small Business Saturday…
In no particular order and amusingly very food and drink centric (which says more about us than about what Chester has to offer)
A pop up vegetarian restaurant with a unique vibe and ace food. in fact we’re so keen Amy wrote a review about them for Chester Culture last year.
The hospitable staff make it very easy to spend hours in this place. The drinks menu is worth savouring and Artichoke manages to maintain a laid back atmosphere even when it’s full to the brim on a Friday night.
Hobson’s cafe at Hoole Community Centre
Fast becoming a focus for loads of lovely community based activity in Hoole the relatively new cafe is fab. the food is lovely and wholesome and staff couldn’t be more welcoming.
Chester Beer & Wine
A treasure chest of beautiful drinks, the staff are knowledgeable and really help you find something to your taste or suitable gifts. Owner Sam is also one of the team known as Notting Hoole a group who have been doing amazing community events in Hoole and who put their energies behind gaining Hoole ‘Best Newcomer Award’ at the Great British High Street Awards!
Chester Food Assembly
We have been bigs fans of CFA since its launch, in fact we we’re their first order! supporting local producers, creating community around food in local venues – now based at Hobson’s cafe. This is another business Amy reviewed for Chester Culture, so you can read more here.
If we were to only eat one type of food forever, it would be curry so we’re pretty picky! Barton Rouge stands head and shoulders and arms and legs above the rest. Indian food that has the old favourites as well as a few specialities. You can taste all the layers of spicing in their dishes, and the fresh tasting ingredients – oh yeah and giant naan breads on spikes – you can’t beat it!
A proper deli with a range of mouthwatering meats, cheeses, snacks and more both locally sourced, locally crafted and more exotic stuff will be found here. We love it for a tasty lunch as much as for the special Christmas cheeseboard.
Cheshire Sandwich Company
Beautiful sandwich combinations, fresh ingredients with some classics and those with more of a twist. yum yum.
When we first moved to Chester we desperately missed our favourite Turkish restaurant, so we were chuffed when Istanbul BBQ opened. Amazing service, and tasty tasty food. If we can drag ourselves away from the mezze there’s always a speciality to try and the Turkish wine’s not bad either.
An exciting range of beer from around the world, kash bar is ace. The food is really good too, especially the burgers. Kash bar also ran the first chester “burger Off” and were modest and decent enough not to enter theirs, which in our opinion would have given the others a run for the money if they had!
i really could go on and on, but for now we’ll just say happy Small Business Saturday to you all. it’s independent businesses that give our high streets and our cities in general their unique flavour so lets celebrate them!
